SAMAYARA CHAKA
(Wheel of Time)

SCENE-VIII >>

(Madan Babu's residence. Madan Babu's younger brother Harihar stages an entry)

Harihar : Bhauja . . . . . Bhauja

Gopi : Maa is inside . . . .

Harihar : Who are you ?

Gopi : I am Gopi. My house is near Ghaniadi's house.  Ghaniadi has gone to her village and
has kept me here as a temporary replacement.  Thus, I am doing all the work that
           Ghaniadi used to do.

Harihar : Inform Bhauja that I have come.

Gopi : Please be seated Sir.
(Meena stages an entry). (She holds Harihar and weeps inconsolably)

Harihar : So many things have occurred and you didn't inform me.

Meena : Your brother told me not to inform you because it may distract you from your
                studies.

Gopi : Maa, I am bringing some snacks for Sana Babu.
(Gopi makes an exit). (Doctor Naro stages an entry
).

Dr. Das : Wehn did you come ? Harihar your college hasn't closed as yet, then how did you
                come ?

Harihar : This is the express telegram that Bhauja sent me.

Dr. Das : I was telling her not to inform you.

Meena : What would people think of me if I didn't inform him ?

Dr. Das : Leave it . . . Tell me how are you ?
(Gopi makes an entry with snacks)

Harihar : No, I won't eat . . . Let me go and meet my brother.
                (Harihar makes an exit).

Dr. Das : Tell me, Meenu, how are you ?

Meena : (Changing her emotions . . . Looking straight into Dr. Das eyes).
You tell me as to how I am looking as you behold ? I get married to Madan
                because of social customs . . . . but . . .

Dr. Das : What did you get after marrying Madan ?

Meena : I never thought . . . that you will sacrifice so many things for me . . .

Dr. Das : If I had the opportunity, then I would be able to show you how much I love you.

Meena : I am so glad to hear this. Today I am very much fatigued. Tomorrow when you
come, we shall talk freely and frankly.

Dr. Das : You go and take rest. I am going. (Dr. Das makes an exit).
                (Birendra makes an entry)

Birendra : Why are you looking so washed out ?

Meena : Not because he went to jail, but that dacoit is always coming and disturbing me.
               That Naro. . . . .

Birendra : What does he want ?

Meena : He is telling me that he will fulfill all my desires only after marrying me.

Birendra : Chhi . . . . Chhi. . . . Madan is your lawfully married husband. . .

Meena : A dacoit cannot be my husband . . .

Birendra : What does that mean ?

Meena : You judge . . . . he always stayed far away from me. Day and night he was on tours
all the time work and work. Except money he recognised nothing else. Whatever
               else in that . . .

Birendra : What are you saying ?

Meena : I am recalling bit by bit everything. You loved me so much, but you couldn't take
me out of my house . . . And for that self-respect I was complied to marry Madan.

Birendra : For you only I never got married until date.

Meena : Today also I am saying : What I was before my marriage, I am the same today.

Birendra : So, why delay ? Let's leave this place and go away.

Meena : Whenever you desire, I am willing. I am not at all unwilling. But, Bira Bhai I am
                very tired today - I need a little rest . . .

Birendra : Then, you go take rest Meena . . .
                  (Harihar makes an entry)

Harihar : What happened Bhauja ?

Meena : No, nothing.
